The School Run

Hi, we just wanted to share this website https://www.theschoolrun.com/

They have so much useful information on there for primary school children. There is tons of free information and worksheets. They also have a paid service (I haven’t tried this). Information is organised:

Homework Help

It’s very useful and makes it easy to find subjects and project ideas.

IGCSE CHEMISTRY AND PHYSICS BOOKS

A recommendation from a home ed IGCSE site:

“The Pearson Edexcel Student Books for Chemistry and Physics are really good
– better than the Edexcel Student Book for Biology, in our experience. The
Chemistry one is by Jim Clark of www.chemguide.co.uk and he offers extra
support on that site. The Physics one we also found straightforward and
interesting for the boys to work through; both my oldest two got A* grades
using this book alone.

Just in case anyone else reading is wondering about timing of these exams,
Edexcel IGCSE Physics and Chemistry are not changing to 9-1 grading until
Summer 2019, and the last exam of the current specification is January
2019. You can take this as a first-time candidate but you won’t have
another chance at the exact same specification.”

PRACTICAL SCIENCE ASSESSMENT

An interesting option for those studying for A levels in the sciences. Costs £594 plus £188 accommodation and £294 for the compulsory lab induction day. It will give you the accreditation for the certificate. Booking will open in April 2017, however places are limited and expected to book fast.

When attended as a residential option, this course fulfils the Duke of Edinburgh Gold Residential Award, which can be signed off by the course leader. Please provide your DofE number by the final day of the course in order for your reference and approval to be submitted online.

Please be aware that this is not a school laboratory. Students achieve their qualification at our state of the art facilities in Liverpool Science Park and are taught in very small groups, with real scientists to encourage questions, interaction and discussion. The course not only offers the opportunity to gain the laboratory assessment, it also offers the opportunity to meet real scientists and enter a real research laboratory.

FUN SCIENCE VIDEO

AWESOME PERIODIC TABLE

The Periodic Table in videos is AWESOME! Click on the elements and watch a video. The Technicians of Nottingham University chemistry department have real blast exploding elements left right and center. Developed by the University of Nottingham, each video is short (2-4 minutes) and provides basic information about the featured element, it’s history, and how it is used. The scientists’ antics with beakers, Bunsen burners, and bloopers are narrated by mild-mannered professor Martyn Poliakoff who has wonderful, wild, Einstein-ish hair! http://www.periodicvideos.com/

Here is an example:
