MUSIC BURSARIES, APPLY NOW

Future Talent supports gifted young musicians from low income backgrounds from anywhere in the UK. This is typically families who have a household income of around £30,000 per year, or less, before tax (incl. benefits). Any young musicians on free school dinners would be eligible for one of our bursaries.

Bursaries of up to £2,000 per year can be used on anything that will help nurture a young musician’s talent. For example, funds can be used for lessons, a new instrument or case, courses or maintenance.

We do not have a specific grade requirement or level that needs to be reached, but rather we try to weigh up the financial need/talent/potential of each musician. Some examples of the kind of musicians we support are below:

  • A 16/17 year old, grade 7/8 musician who is planning to study music in higher education and needs their own instrument or extra lessons.
  • A 13 year old who has been learning for a few years and is progressing really quickly, who would really benefit from taking part in an ensemble/orchestral course, or who needs some more support with costs.
  • A year 5 or 6 continuer, who has gone through wider opportunities, and has managed to reach grade 2/3 standard by the end of primary school, but whose parents cannot afford to carry on with lessons.

Our Mentoring, Advice and Bursary Programme also offers free orchestral days and performance classes, mentoring with a professional musician/conductor and development opportunities. Our aim is to give talented young musicians an equal chance to enter a musical career, who might otherwise not get the opportunity due to lack of funds or experience.

The Charity is now accepting applications for a 2017/18 Bursary. The closing date is Monday 16 January 2017.

Further details about our different bursaries and a short video about Future Talent can be found on our website: futuretalent.org.

You will find our application guidelines, form and financial declaration online and if you or your pupils have any questions then we would be more than happy to help. Please feel free to email me at lucia@futuretalent.org, or telephone on 0203 457 1312.

NEW THIS TERM: CHOIR. Yes we have a new choir starting this term with a concert at the end of the term.

Choir : Tues from 7pm – 8.30 – currently this is taking children from age 7 – upwards (subject to time change if a large primary school age/secondary school age variety)

Adult Group piano lessons: Thursday’s from 7.30 – 9.00 max. numbers 8 (NB I have taught group piano lessons for up to 12 in a group for 10 years in Hammersmith and Fulham Adult education).

Currently starting a ‘re-living’ history of music course – which starts on Monday 24th October at the Fulham Group – however if this gets oversubscribed then there may be an opportunity of running it at my studio at another time. (HER)

Occasionally I run workshops in things like HOW THE PIANO WORKS which involves taking the piano apart and putting it back together again.

Other workshops include – Creative music making; Sigh-treading; Paperweaving and more both music and craft workshops.

Can also help with GCSE Revision.

All students can work towards ABRSM exams ( I have been teaching since 1989 and have a 100% exam success rate with both individual and group students. With around 60% Merits and Distinctions). Groups get the opportunity of working towards music medals.

African Drumming Workshop, Kilburn

African Drumming Workshop with Tumaadir Drumming School ( Pearls of Islam)

“For our first ’Revival Workshop’ we have teamed up with Tumaadir Drumming School to bring to you an intimate workshop for those interested in the art of Drumming.

The drum is the first documented instrument, with our ancestors using the drum for various reasons, from communication, to healing, in battle and for circles of remembrance and praise of the Divine and the Prophet (pbuh). Particularly in the Islamic tradition the drum plays an important role in dhikr (remembrance) and celebrated songs of praise. It was the sounds of the drum the greeted the Prophet (PBUH) upon his arrival in Madina.

PLEASE JOIN US for an EXCITING introductory drumming workshop, as we explore the history and spiritual art of the drum. We will be practice a variety of basic rhythms and beats, You will come away feeling confident about how to play a drum, as well as learn different techniques and methods of playing the djembe.
